about_image In 2020 Reno Natives, Mark Folgner and Kevin Tappan founded the general contracting firm BLC Builders. When choosing a name for the new company, Mark and Kevin paid tributes to their Reno roots with the nod to The Biggest Little City (BLC). In 2021 the company was approved by the Nevada State Contractors Board for an Unlimited B License allowing it to handle both large and small projects for a wide range of owners, developers, and end users.

For those unfamiliar with the Nevada's contracting regulations, it is one of the only states that regulates General Contractors scopes and license limits. The Nevada State Contractors Board performs a rigorous background check complete with references and interviews to vet out a contractor's capabilities. Nevada will limit General Contractors if they are not qualified for large scale construction or high-rise builds. Along with scope qualification, there is also an extensive review on the Company's financial strength and viability to pay subcontractors and vendors at the scale of large construction projects. After these reviews the board awards the company's bid limit with the highest being Unlimited.

With Mark's extensive resume and background in large scale construction projects including high rise buildings, BLC Builders qualified for a full General Contractors B license and an Unlimited bid limit, effectively allowing BLC Builders the ability to bid and perform work on any project in Nevada regardless of scope or size.

BLC Builders has made an immediate name for its self in the Reno Market. Our teams extensive experience and reputation has been in high demand and as a result BLC has been awarded nearly $25 million of construction work in be completed in 2022.

BLC Builders specializes in commercial construction and works on both tenant improvements and ground-up projects. Mark has brought his experience working in developing systems and efficiencies deployed for large scale projects to his new team. "A general contractor should bring something more significant than just logistics management to a project," said Mark. "We need to bring creativity and attention to detail to what can be a hectic process, conveyed to clients efficiently and always with realistic timeframes and cost. I very much see each project through the eyes of a client and want to work to ensure BLC is always acting as an extension of the owner."

BLC Builders is performing a build to suit project to construct the new Reno home to Sierra Nevada Nephrology. The wood frame structure will hold 24 exam rooms, clinical lab and research rooms and office administrative staff.

The Bonde Development is owned by BLC's sister company Yetis LLC. The team of SNN, Yetis and BLC are working together to fast track the design for permitting and construction to take place in 2022.

Redwood Materials Industrial plant in Carson City started with the rehab of a former metal building manufacturing plant that is being transformed to an industry leading recycling facility. BLC Team Members Mark Folgner and Brandon Palmer have been working side by side with Redwood Materials design building the recycling manufacturing facility that includes pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy methods to obtain recycled metals form batteries and other forms of e-waste.

BLC Builders has performed multiple projects for Redwood including office space, industrial convertor infrastructure and support and mechanical, plumbing and electrical upgrades.

This project featured an 1,800 SF existing dental office that was redesigned into an upgraded endodontic office. Core tenant improvement modifications included a new in-wall plumbing design for the air and suction carts used by doctors and assistants. This location also features upgraded LED lighting, electrical improvements for new endodontic equipment, flooring and cabinetry.

This Project is the conversion of 210 existing outdated hotel rooms in two (2) different buildings on same property; a 5- story and 4-story building will be converted to 216 new apartment doors. Rooms are attractively fitted with full kitchenettes (cabinets, countertops and appliances). Bathrooms are luxury floor to ceiling subway tiles, walk in/ out shower, cabinets with granite tops and stunning fixtures. Luxury vinyl tile flooring through entire facility, updating fixtures, removing wallpaper and converting common areas. We are updating plumbing fixtures, mechanical systems as needed, electrical service upgraded, fire sprinkler and fire alarm design/ build upgrade.

Property amenities will include spa/ pool house conversion to leasing office, pool deck area updated, exterior modification on siding and paint. We are also working with client to design/ build different onsite community areas to include laundry facility, mailbox areas, bike storage, added units and more.

Landscape modifications include adding hundreds of trees, shrubs and ground cover and parking lot modifications; to include planter boxes and parking lot beautification and restriping to create an upbeat living experience.
